A material maker for speech sound practice.
Word Drill Generator is made by The Art of Service Pty Ltd for private-practice speech pathologists and private literacy tutors. It turns the settings from an assessment into a printable round: a word list with the phoneme in IPA beside each spelling, a scoring sheet that totals a percent correct, a cut-out card page and a one-page home pack. It is built to answer a real weekly job: a clinician spends unpaid time building word lists by hand, and a tiered, scored, printable round in a minute replaces the spreadsheet kept for that.
How the word pool is built
The pool is built once, at build time, from public dictionary and word-list sources: a pronunciation dictionary for the phonemes of each word, and a common-word frequency list for the shortlist. A names-and-places blocklist and a hand-written supplement of common early-years practice words are applied on top, so the pool is curated rather than scraped raw. Every word is then tagged with the phonemes it holds, the position of each of those phonemes, its syllable count and shape, its age band, its literacy concept tags and its Australian or US spelling. Nothing is tagged at the moment you press a button; the tags are fixed with the pool.
What the tool does not do
It does not diagnose a speech sound disorder or decide eligibility for services. It does not score a standardised assessment or produce a standard score. It does not give medical, hearing or feeding advice, and it does not write invoices, Medicare or NDIS claims. It makes practice material and states what it is made from.
